Mt. Prospect Parks Foundation Annual Scholarship Presentation
The Mt. Prospect Parks Foundation, the fundraising arm of the Mt. Prospect Park District, presented three $1500 scholarships as part of the July 17 Park Board of Commissioners meeting.
Held at the Central Community Center in Mount Prospect, the meeting included the scholarship presentation from Foundation President, Janice Stone and Foundation Executive Director, Ruth Yueill. Yueill read excerpts from the essays of each of this year’s recipients: Drew Jensen, Caroline Lufitz and Timothy George.
Since the inception of the scholarship program in 2005, the Foundation has awarded more than $74,000 in scholarship funds.
Awarded to employees or children of employees under 25 years of age attending college or technical/trade school in the fall, applicants submit their grade-point averages, personal letters of recommendation, and original essays in response to a specific question(s).
In 2024, applicants had the option to reflect on an important Era in their life or consider what the quote, “The only person who can stop you from achieving your dreams is yourself” means to them. A panel of independent judges score the application and determine the winners.
Established in 1997, the Mt. Prospect Parks Foundation is a 501(c)3 not-for-profit organization. Its purpose is to enhance the quality of parks, facilities and recreation opportunities by raising funds through tax-deductible donations.
Recently, the Foundation funded a new pavilion at Rosemary S. Argus Friendship Park and a new scoreboard for the Lions Recreation Center gym. On Sunday, August 18, The Foundation will host a summer Cabaret evening at Friendship Park Conservatory featuring Billy Elton’s lead vocalist, Reid Spears. Details at mppd.org
